Question from Deanna, a parent:

if I purchase an item for $450.00 but get a discount 15% of my item what would then be my total

We have two responses for you

Deanna,

I only get a discount of 12% of the cost of the item. 12% of $450.00 is

12/100 × $450.00 = 0.12 × $450.00 = $54.00

hence my cost would be $450.00 - $54.00 = $396.00

What would your cost be?
Penny

Hi Deanna.

If I get a 15% discount, I have to pay 85% of the sticker price. That's because the percentages have to add up to 100%.

So what is 85% of $450?

It is 0.85 x $450.

Cheers,
Stephen.
