Hi Denise, First make an intelligent guess. 6^{2} = 36 which is almost 40 so (6^{2})^{2} = 6^{4} is almost 40^{2} = 1600. Let's square again since I know that 16^{2} = 256. (6^{4})^{2} = 6^{8} is almost 1600^{2} = 2,560,000 This is too large but then all our estimates were too large so 1,679,616 is probable 6^{8} or maybe 6^{7}. Now do the calculation exactly. Find 6^{4} = (6^{2})^{2} = 36^{2} and square the result to get 6^{8}. Penny
