Devon,
There is a technique some people use to remember the order of precedence for arithmetic operations. It's called BEDMAS
B: Perform any operations inside brackets
E: Perform any exponentiation or powers
D: Division
M: Multiplication
A: Addition
S: Subtraction
You have multiplication and subtraction so multiplication takes precedence and you get
18 - 4 × 2 = 18 - 8 = 10.
