Hi Gary,
The technique of estimation using compatible numbers is to identify numbers which are close to the numbers in your problem that make the calculation easy. For example 163/8 is approximately 160/8 and here the arithmetic is easy since 16/8 = 2. thus 163/8 is approximately 160/8 = 20.
