Question from Jaime, a student:

Is a square a rectangle?

Hi Jaime,

The short answer is yes.

The definition of a rectangle used by most authors is a parallelogram, all of whose angles are right angles and hence a square is a rectangle. A square meets the requirements to be a rectangle but it also has another property, all of its sides are congruent.
