Question from josh, a student:

a bowl is the shape of a hemisphere with diameter 30 cm and water is poured into the bowl to a height h cm. how do i find the volume of the water in the bowl

Hi Josh,

I can get you started.

I would imagine the bowl upside down so that I am dealing with positive numbers.

sphere

I then see this as a volume of revolution using circular disks.

circle

Can you see how to proceed?

If you need further assistance write back.

Harley
