Question from Leroy:

(100 yards of cloth 48 inches = how many square yards)

Hi Leroy,

The area of a rectangle is the length times the width but you need both measurements in the same units. You want to area in square yards so both measurements should be in yards. There are 36 inches in a yard so 48 inches is 48/36 yards. Thus the area is

length × width = 100 × 48/36 = 133 1/3 square yards.
