Question from Lydia, a student: If I buy a book of $89.00 and my GST is 5% what will my total come out to? |
Hi Lydia,
The price of the book is $89.00 and then you need to add the GST which is 5% of $89.00. 5% of $89.00 is 5/100 × $89.00 = 0.05 × $89.00 = $4.45. Thus the price including the 5% GST is $89.00 + $4.45 = $93.45.
If you want to do this in one step it is
$89.00 + 0.05 × $89.00 = 1.05 × $89.00 = $93.45.
