Question from mary, a student: Is there any possible relationship between composite functions and the concept of function transformations? |
Hi Mary,
When you say function transformations I think of things like
- transforming y = f(x) into g1(x) = f(x + 3)
- transforming y = f(x) into g2(x) = 3 + f(x)
- transforming y = f(x) into g3(x) = 5 × f(x)
and similar transformations. These are compositions.
- Let p(x) = x + 3 then f (p(x)) = f(x + 3) = g1(x)
- Here p(f(x) = f(x) + 3 = g2(x)
- let m(x) = 5 × x then m(f(x)) = 5 × f(x)
