Question from Nathan:

I have a sample of material that is 10cmx10cmx5cm and has a mass of 29 grams. How many grams would a sample of the same material that was 96cmx188cmx5cm be?

Nathan,

The volume of the material is 10 × 10 × 5 = 500 cubic centimeters and the mass is 29 grams. Thus the density is

59/500 = 0.118 grams/cubic centimeter.

How much would 96 × 118 × 5 = 56640 cubic centimeters weigh?

Penny
