Question from patricia, a student:

Find the length of the arc on a circle of radius r = 16 inches intercepted by a central angle [theta] = 60 degrees

Patricia,

The circumference of a circle of radius 16 inches is 2 × π × 16 = 32 π inches. 60 is one sixth of 360 so 60 degrees is one sixth of the way around the circle. Thus the length of the arc is one sixth of 32 π inches.
