Question from peyton, a student:

18x=6(x*x)

Hi Peyton.

Move everything to one side of the equation, leaving a zero on the other side:

0 = 6x2 - 18x

Then factor it:

0 = 6x(x-3)

If two things times each other makes zero, then one or the other (or both) equal zero. So either 6x = 0 or x - 3 = 0. Solve these separately:

6x = 0
x = 0/6
x = 0.

x - 3 = 0
x = 3.

So x = 0 or x = 3.

Cheers,
Stephen La Rocque.
