Question from Sara, a student:

Hi!
The perimeter of a rectangle is 62cm. The length of the diagonal is 25 cm. Calculate the dimensions of the rectangle.
Thanks!

Sara,

Let the dimensions of the rectangle be x and y (width and height).

Then 2x + 2y = 62 and due to Pythagorus, x2 + y2 = 252.

Solve for x and y in this system of equations. If you need further help, try searching for "substitution method" or "simultaneous equations" in our Quick Search.
