Question from seemachauhan:

How to find unit digit of various numbers and what are unit digits?

Seemachauhan,

We use a base 10 position system for numbers. For example for the number two-hundred and fifty-six, we write 256 to mean

200 + 50 + 6 = 2 × 100 + 5 × 10 + 6 = 2 × 102 + 5 × 10 + 6

or three-thousand, five-hundred and twenty seven is written

3527 = 3000 + 500 + 20 + 7 = 3 × 103 + 5 × 102 + 2 × 10 + 7

In the number 3527 we say that 3 is in the thousands place, 5 is in the hundreds place, 2 is in the tens place and 7 is in the ones place. We sometimes also say that 7 is the units digit.

I hope this helps,
Penny
