Question from Selah, a student:

How do I change an improper fraction to a mixed number?
Thank,
Selah

Hi Selah,

To change an improper fraction to a mixed number you divide and keep track of the remainder. For example if the improper fraction is 17/3 then since 17 ÷ 3 = 5 with a remainder of 2 you can write

 17/3 = 5 2/3

Similarly

 13/9 = 1 4/9

I hope this helps,
Penny
