What is the method for figuring this type of question out?
in a circle whose radius is 25, a chord has a length of 40. find the distance of this chord from the center of the circle

In my diagram D is the midpoint of AB. By the symmetry angle ADB is a right angle. Pythagoras should solve the rest for you.
