Question from Stephanie:

I have a 50 ac tract of Railroad I need to know approx how many miles of track would be included in 50 ac

Stephanie,

I assume you own a strip of land with the railroad on it. Do you know how wide the strip is?

Penny

Approx 5ft wide, Thank you!

Stephanie

Stephanie,

If the tract is L feet long then 5ft × L ft is the area in square feet. One acre is 43560 square feet hence 50 acres is 50 × 43560 square feet. Thus 5 L = 50 × 43560 and L = 50 × 43560/5 = 435600 feet. There are 5280 feet in a mile so 435600 feet is 435600/5280 = 82.5 miles.
