Question from taquicia, a student:

2y-x=3
x=5+y
what is this answer to this question because it's very hard.

Hi Taquicia,

Since the x is isolated in the second equation, we can substitute 5+y in its place in the first equation.

2y-(5+y)=3

Now solve for y and substitute its value into either equation to find your x value.

This is a system of linear equations which means we are trying to find where to lines intersect each other. An alternative method would be to graph each line and see where the the lines cross each other.
