astrogirl, a student:

find the shape and area of the largest rectangle that can be inscribed in a circle of a diameter a=2

Hi Astrogirl,

If the rectangle is inscribed in a circle, then each corner is touching the circle. Since the diameter is 2, this will also be the diagonal of the rectangle:

Using Pythagoras' Theorem, length2+width2=22. Now you need to maximize the equation.

Hope this helps,

Janice
