Erin:

A rectangular garden has dimensions of 18 feet by 13 feet. A gravel path of uniform width is to be built around the garden. How wide can the path be if there is enough gravel for 516 square feet?

Hi Erin,

I am considering the width of the path to be x.

The area of the garden is 216 square feet so the total area of the path and garden is 732 sqaure feet. If the length of the garden and path is 18+x and the width is 13+x, what is x?

Hope this hint helps,

Janice
