Question from Allie, a student:

If you have food that costs $0.75 per portion and your food cost is 16.5% how would you find the retail price?

Allie,

If you knew the retail price $P and that the food cost is 16.5% of the retail price then you could calculate the food cost by

0.165 × $P = food cost.

Divide both side of this equation by 0.165 to get

$P = (food cost)/0.165.
