Question from Amanda, a student:

If f(x)=1/(x-1) then what is the slope of the tangent line at x=-2?

Amanda,

The slope of the tangent line to y = f(x) at x = -2 is f '(-2) so you need to differentiate f(x). I would first write f(x) = (x - 1)-1 and then differentiate.
