Question from Beth:
Hello,
I am organizing a golf trip for 9 women. We are playing in threesomes and are playing four days.
I would love to mix it up so that everyone gets to play with each other
at least once.

Beth,

Yes, let the golfers be Agnes, Beth, Charlotte... Ivana.

ABC
DEF
GHI

This is a finite geometry with four sets of lines: horizontal (such as ABC), slope +1 (such as DBI), slope -1 (such as DHC) and vertical (such as ADG. You can actually see these in the diagram; note that slopping lines "wrap". Lines within a set do not intersect, lines in different sets intersect exactly once.

So your schedule is

ABC,DEF,GHI
AHF,DBI,GEC
AEI,DHC,GBF
ADG,BEH,CFI

Have fun!
-RD
