Question from Christopher, a student:

1/6(x-18)+1/8(x+8)=x-9

Christopher,

The common denominator of 1/6 and 1/8 is 24 so I would multiply both sides by 24 to get

24[ 1/6(x-18)+1/8(x+8)] = 24(x-9)
4(x - 18) + 3(x + 8) = 24(x - 9)

Can you complete the solution?

Penny
