Conor,
You need to know some relationships among trig functions in order to solve this as well as similar problems. First you need to know how to write the trig functions in terms of the sine and cosine functions.
tan(x) = sin(x)/cos(x)
sec(x) = 1/cos(x)
and so on.
There are a few other relationships that are worthwhile remembering. Among them is
sin2(x) + cos2(x) = 1.
