Question from David, a student:

Find all real solution to each equation.

x^-2/3 = 9 how do you do this if its to the power

x + 1= Square root (3x +13) can you explain how to get an solution with square root?

Hi David,

x-2/3 = 9:

9 = 32 so the equation can be written x-2/3 = 32 and hence x-1/3 = 3. Can you complete it now? Make sure you check your answer.

x + 1 = √(3x + 13):

Square both sides to get x2 + 2x + 1 = 3x + 13. Solve this quadratic and again make sure you check your answer.
