Question from Dawn, a parent:

when dividing a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number, for what divisors can you get a reminder of 8 ? Explain

Dawn,

Why not try a few examples? Try dividing 487, 488, 489, ... by various 1-digit numbers and observe if and when you get a remainder of 8. You can even use a calculator if you wish, but my guess is that you will see a pattern more quickly if you divide the old-fashioned way.
