Question from fatiuma, a student:

Solve the equation 2x + y = 6 for y.

Fatiuma,

If the equation were 8 + y = 6 then subtracting 8 from both sides would yield

8 + y - 8 = 6 - 8
y = -2

With your equation 2x + y = 6 you apply the same technique, subtract 2x from each side. What is the result?
