Question from Giselle, a student:

3x squared minus 2x equals -5

Giselle,

Adding 5 to each side of the equation gives

3x2 - 2x + 5 = 0.

This quadratic does not factor so you are left with using the general quadratic or completing the square. Each of these show that there is no real solution.
