Question from kim, a parent:

Find the next 2 terms of the sequence.
11n+2.5

Kim,

In the common notation for a sequence, as in your example 11n + 2.5 the letter n is used to indicate the term number. For example n = 1 indicates the first term, n = 2 indicates the second term and so on. To find the value of the term we substitute the value for n into the expression.

  • first term: n = 1: 11n + 2.5 = 11 × 1 + 2.5 = 13.5

  • second term: n = 2: 11n + 2.5 = 11 × 2 + 2.5 = 24.5

  • third term: n = 3: 11n + 2.5 = 11 × 3 + 2.5 = 35.5

  • .....

  • tenth term: n = 10: 11n + 2.5 = 11 × 10 + 2.5 = 112.5

  • ...
