Question from lupio:

a 20' pool is surrounded by a 3' wood deck, find the amount of material needed for the project

I assume that the diameter of your pool is 20', if not you will need to modify my response.

The area of a circle is π r2 square feet where r is the radius in feet. Your pool has a radius of 10 feet so find its area. Add 3 feet to the radius of the pool to find the radius of the pool plus the deck and find the area. The area of the deck is then the difference between the area of the pool plus the deck and the area of the pool.

I hope this helps,

(1) draw & label a diagram

(2) find the total area of the pool and deck

(3) subtract the area of the pool

Good Hunting!
