Question from Shaun:

This is part of a larger Calculus problem but I am stuck on the algebra.

I need to factor (a-b) out of the following: a(a+1) - b(b+1). I know it is simple but I cannot remember how.

Thanks,

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

It's the difference of squares that you need,

a2 - b2 = (a - b)(a + b)

Does this help?

If you need further assistance write back,
Penny
