Question from Sonya, a parent:

9/10 of the students came to school today and 8/9 of the students brought their lunches how many students brought their lunches

Hi Sonya. The key here is to understand that "8/9 of" means "8/9 times".

So to answer this, you multiply 9/10 by 8/9. Remember that when multiplying fractions, you multiply the numerators (top numbers) and you multiply the denominators (bottom numbers), then you can simplify the fraction to lowest terms.

Hope this helps,
Stephen La Rocque.
