Question from Tamara:

How do you convert 1248 to base 6?

Hi Tamara. Just keep dividing by the base and keep track of the remainders.

Here's an example, you can use this method for your own question.

Problem: Convert 4582 from base 10 (normal decimal number) to base 8.

Solution: 4582 / 8 = 572 remainder 6. Now take the 572 and do it again:
572 / 8 = 71 remainder 4.
71 / 8 = 8 remainder 7.
8 / 8 = 1 remainder 0.
1 / 8 = 0 remainder 1. When you get 0 remainder something, you are done.

Now read the remainders in reverse: 1, 0, 7, 4, 6. The answer is 10746.

Try this method with your question now Tamara.

Cheers,
Stephen La Rocque
