Val,
36 to the second power, 362, is 36 times 36. Hence you need to multiply 36 by 36 and then divide the result by 10.
The value 36 has centimeters for units so 362 will have centimeters times centimeters or square centimeters for units. The value 10 has centimeters for units so the units of the result will be
(centimeters × centimeters)/centimeters = centimeters.
