Question from Jessica, a parent:

What is 12 billion X 6 trillion?

Hi Jessica,

I will assume you are referring to the American system of naming numbers over a million. Even though those are two very large numbers, they are simple to multiply together. For example, let's try 4 million × 8 billion

First, I know that 4 million × 8 billion = 4 000 000 × 8 000 000 000

All you have to do is multiply the non-zero numbers 4 × 8=32

Count the number of zeros after each number: 15

Put the total number of zeros after the non-zero numbers you multiplied: 32 000 000 000 000 000

So 4 000 000 × 8 000 000 000 = 32 000 000 000 000 000

Now try 12 billion × 6 trillion yourself.

Hope this helps,

Janice
