Mark:

what is 7.9 trillion divided by 301 million?

Hi Mark,

One trillion usually means 1012 or one million million (in some places it is 1018 but that is very rare). Since one million is 10^6 and we can change the numbers to

7.9 trillion = 7.9 × 1012

301 million = 301 ×106

So our division is

7.9 × 1012 ÷ 301 ×106

We have cancel one million or 106 from both to get

7.9 × 106÷ 301

So our dividin 7.9 trillion by 301 million is the same as dividing 7.9 million by 301 or

7900000÷301

You can use long division to complete the division

Hope this helps,

Janice
