theodore, a student:

area of a triangle is 40 in2 and base is 4 in what is the height

A = 1/2 b h

Plug in and get

40 in2 = 1/2 x 4 in x height

Can you solve that? If you remember you are working in inches you can just solve

40 = (1/2 x 4) x height
