Question from anne, a parent: i have a total amount15.81.i need to find out the amount of gst(5%) and the pst(7%) that i paid within that amount of 15.81 |
Anne,
The total tax is 12% so if you knew the price before tax then
1.12 × price = $15.81.
Turning that backwards then
$15.81/1.12 = price
so
price = $14.12.
Hence the tax was $15.81 - $14.12 = $1.69.
The GST is then 5/12 × $1.69 = $0.70 and the PST is $1.69 - 0.71 = $0.99.
