rectangular lawn has length 40 m and width 30 m. David starts cutting from the outside in. How wide a strip has he cut when the lawn is half mowed?


Draw a diagram. In my diagram the width if the strip already cut is w metres.


What is the area of the lawn?

What is the length of the uncut piece?

What is the width of the uncut piece?

What is the area of the uncut piece?

This is half the area of the lawn. Solve for w.
