Question from Brian:

I have a 50' long tank by 12' diameter it is lying down on it side with 12" of Liquid in the bottom i need to know how many gallons of fluid this is? Please Help, I was able to calculate out the Triangle but not the Sector!

Brian,

You can find an expression for the volume in cubic feet at
http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/QQ/database/QQ.09.07/h/mario1.html

In your case h = 50 feet, r = 6 feet and d = 1 foot.

Once you have the volume in cubic feet you can ask Google for the volume in gallons. If the volume is V cubic feet then just type V cubic feet in gallons into the Google search window.
