Question from Kim, a student:

I am having trouble proving this trig identity

(sin^2 x + 2 cos x-1) / 2+cos x - cos^2 x = 1/ (1+ sec x)

Kim,

I assume the left side is

equation

Factor the denominator, use the fact that 1 - sin2x = cos2x and simplify.

On the right side write secx = 1/cosx and simplify.
