Leah,
Factorials are used in lots of places!
- counting the ways to arrange things
- finding "Poisson" probabilities connected with rare events
- finding power series to approximate functions
- computing binomial coefficients, which are used for:
- finding binomial expansions
- finding the number of ways to choose N things out of M
- finding various probabilities connected with sampling
