I have a sidewalk 4"thick,4ft. wide, and I have 2cubic yards of concrete. What is the length of my sidewalk?

Hi Les,

Since you have the volume in cubic yards I would convert the measurements to yards. There are 36 inches in a yard so 4 inches is 4/36 = 1/9 yards. There are 3 feet in a yard so 4 feet is 4/3 yards. Suppose the length is L yards. The volume is then

(1/9) × (4/3) × L cubic yards.

You know the volume is 2 cubic yards. Solve for L.
