Question from Lynda:

I need to calculate the percentage of a total number.

If my total is 2.9 million and I take out 187,000 what percentage am I reducing it by?

Lynda,

2.9 million is 2,900,000. If you remove 187,000 you are reducing the amount by "187,000/2,900,000 ths". Expressing 187,000/2,900,000 s a decimal fraction I get 0.0645. As a percentage that is 6.45%.
