Question from Mackenzie, a student:

A 7 foot long ladder is leaning against the building. The foot of the ladder is 2 feet from the base of the building. How far up the wall is the top of the ladder?

Hi Mackenzie.

If you draw this out, you will see you have a right angled triangle. You know the length of the hypotenuse (the ladder itself) and the base (2 ft) and you need to know the other side's length. What does Pythagoras tell you about this?

Hope my hint helps you!
Stephen La Rocque.
