Question from makiah, a student:

A rectangle has a perimeter of 12 meters. If each side is a whole number of meters,
what are the possible dimensions for the length and width?

Makiah,

The perimeter is

length + width + length + width

and hence

length + width = 6 meters.

What are the possible positive integer choices for the length and width? For example one possible choices are length = 5 meters and width = 1 meter but not length = 1 meter and width = 5 meters since the width can't be larger than the length.
