Question from Mark, a student:

there are 30 cubic yards of concrete, how many feet will it cover with a 4" slab?

Hi Mark,

The volume of a rectangular slab in cubic yards is length × width × thickness where the three dimensions are measured in yards. You have a thickness of 4 inches which is 4/39 = 1/9 yards and hence

length × width × 1/9 = 30 cubic yards.

Thus

length × width = 270 square yards.

Convert this to square feet.
