Question from matt:

hello, I have to layout a radius without being able to pull from the center my radius is 3819.53 feet and i have a chord length of 275.59 feet if i broke that up into 25.05 feet sections how would i calculate the lengths from my chord to that radius?

Matt,

If you are using 25 foot chords on a 3819 foot radius, the center of your chord will miss the arc by only a quarter of an inch,
or

[1 - cos(12.5/3819)] × 3819 feet.

Ignore it. So long as you locate your chord endpoints accurately (if you don't have professional surveying equipment, a good GPS set to average readings over several minutes is probably your best bet) you will be fine.

Good Hunting!
