Question from Sonjonnia, a student:

What is the value of the discriminate?
16x^2=16x-4

Sonjonnia,

The first think I notice is that 4 divides both sides of the equation. Dividing both sides by 4 gives

4x2 = 4x - 1.

To find the value of the discriminant you need to write the quadratic in standard form ax2 + bx + c.

Once you have done that the discriminant is given by b2 - 4ac.

I hope this helps,
Penny
